The South Alabama wide receiver had over 1,300 receiving yards for the Jaguars this season to pair with seven touchdowns. Pyne expects to have three seasons of eligibility left once he graduates with his degree. In those two appearances, he threw two touchdowns and three interceptions. But because of injuries, he was sidelined for the most of 2023, only appearing in two games in September. He started all 13 games and threw for 3,231 yards and 23 touchdowns.Īfter starting his career at Notre Dame, Pyne transferred to Arizona State last season. He continued that success in 2022 at Washington State and was an All-Pac-12 Conference honorable mention player. He went 10-3 in 2021 with Incarnate Word and threw for 4,648 yards, 47 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Ward transferred into the WSU program from Incarnate Word prior to the 2022 season, where he was a second team FCS All-American player and the Southland Conference offensive player of the year. He is departing from an offensive line that struggled mightily in pass protection during 2023. He redshirted in his freshman season at Colorado in 2020, but played in five games along the offensive line during the 2021 season. He started in eight games in 2022, and was the starting left tackle this season for coach Deion Sanders. Each one of those movies has varying degrees of historical accuracy. Many movies have been made about different periods in history. So without further ado, here are my findings. I already posted all about my Merida dress ( Part 1, Part 2, Part 3), and so this post will be all about my actual research. I presented my research for school, and thought, “Hey, why not make a dress to go with it?” I wrote a research paper on this topic several years ago, which was the primary reason why I made my Merida dress. All rights reserved. As the title implies, this post is about the historical accuracy of Disney Pixar’s Brave. All thoughts on the movie are purely my own. In the end, Brave is a movie I will wholeheartedly recommend to my friends.ĭisclosure: I saw Brave in Los Angeles as part of an expense-paid press trip for the movie. I thought she was more human and relatable than many of the typical princesses that I see in other movies. And while she wore her pretty princess dresses and learned the typical princess obligations, but she also explored her adventurous side. Merida was a princess but not the typical girly-girl princess. But unlike many kids (in and out of the movies), Merida was strong enough to realize she’d done something wrong and eventually own up to her mistake and try to repair the damage. She fought against the control of her parents. Yes, I would feel comfortable with my own girls looking to Merida as a role model. The male characters really played a supporting role for comic relief. Were they characters I would want my kids to emulate? Not really. They are entertaining, and I see movies primarily to be entertained. Honestly, until people started asking me about the male characters in brave, I didn’t give them much of a second thought. What did you think about the male role models in Brave? There are some life lessons that are not learned without mistakes. I thought that the message of being truly sorry and righting her own wrongs was a strong and important message. But instead of Merida’s rebellion, I focused on and really appreciated the process that she went through, as she realized that she had been wrong about her mother and as she worked to make things right. What about the focus on rebellion?Īs a mother to two teens myself (and remembering my own teenage years) I thought Merida’s complaining and rebellious spirit was pretty mild. I also loved the focus on family and the fact that Merida has a mother and father who are married and 3 siblings (yay for the big family!). Honestly, the setting and the music were my favorite things about Brave, and those are the aspects that have stayed in my mind since seeing the movie last week. What was your favorite thing about Brave? While the film is appropriate for kids, the story line is solid enough to keep parents entertained as well. One of the things I adore about Pixar movies is that they are equally entertaining for kids and adults. Will adults enjoy Brave, or is it a purely “kid-geared” movie? Personally, I thought the bear was much less scary than a creepy, evil character like the evil queen in Snow White (just as an example). I think that only parents can know how their child will react. Since my kids don’t get scared easily, I am much more concerned with appropriate and positive content. However, in terms of language, gorey/graphic scenes, and subject matter, then I would give Brave high marks. If your child gets scared by loud animals noises or chased-by-animal scenes, regardless of age, then this movie is probably not for them. While some 5 year olds would cower at the rather intense bear scenes, I know that most of my kids would have been fine seeing it at 3 or 4. This question has come up again and again, and I don’t have a clear-cut answer for age-appropriate viewing. I loved the movie and was very moved by many things about it. So did my 15 year old daughter (so far, she’s my only child to have seen it yet). ![]() I can answer that question with a resounding YES. While I was in North Carolina this weekend, I was able to chat with a few of my friends about seeing Brave and thought I’d answer some of their questions about the movie. I am finally home, back at my own computer (being back on my computer is just as good as being back in my own bed!), and ready to share all of my adventures in California for the World Premiere of Brave as well as the opening of Cars Land. ![]() Versatile Traction The VersaTrax Outsole is engineered with multiple traction elements. Architects Cram Goodhue & Ferguson of Boston and New York drew the plans, reminiscent of an English country church with modest Gothic elements. A private ferry service brought the travellers directly across the Detroit River to Walker’s dock, and then on to the elegant train station on the town’s main street, Devonshire Road (since demolished by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway).Īt the heart of the town, in 1904, the Walker sons had a fine stone church built in honour of their mother, and named it in her memory – St. At one point, he and his sons developed a summer resort in the town of Kingsville on Lake Erie – the Mettawas Hotel, with its own beautiful rail station designed by Mason & Rice – taking advantage of the desire of Detroiters to get away from the rapidly growing metropolis and kick back on sunny beaches. With government assistance, Walker built the Lake Erie, Essex and Detroit River Railway to transport farm produce in and out of his empire, as well as to ship liquor across the border (even during Prohibition, thanks to a loophole in the law). The son of a German immigrant rabbi, Albert rose to international prominence through the burgeoning automotive industry, designing grand houses and innovative, light-filled factories across the continent and abroad. For this physical expression of self-worth, Chandler chose Mason & Rice’s extraordinary draftsman, Albert Kahn. ![]() Willistead remains the most architecturally distinguished house in the region. Hiram himself never took up residence in Walkerville as did his sons, but commuted daily by ferry from Detroit.Įdward Chandler Walker, the “Number One” son, built his fine house in 1909 and named it for his deceased elder brother, Willis. Farther inland were more elegant residences for the upper class – the directors and managers of various Walker enterprises. (In addition, Hiram built the town’s church on Riverside Drive, as well as a street railway and railway hotel.). The early 1890s saw fine duplexes rise on Devonshire Road for middle management and clergy. At the outset, Hiram’s architects of choice were Mason & Rice, a prominent firm from Detroit that built the company’s beautiful administrative office in 1892. The Walker sons’ Walkerville Land & Building Company hired outstanding architectural firms. Ironically, workers had to live teetotal Walker’s police force made sure of that. ![]() It is noteworthy that workers were required to live in company housing at modest rent. The housing consists of parallel streets (Monmouth and Argyle), lined with small cottages, quadruplex row houses and semi-detached housing. Swine husbandry evolved – the swine consumed the mash produced by the distilling process.ĭeveloped on the English “Garden City” Plan, the company town provided modest housing for distillery workers close to the industrial hub (Walker Road). Walker eventually spread his land holdings more than a mile to the south, developing the Walker Farms, where hops (for the future brewery), corn and rye (for the whiskey, of course) were harvested. Walkerville comprises about four square blocks, from the shore of the Detroit River where the distillery stands, southward to Ottawa Street, bounded on the west by Lincoln Road and on the east by Walker Road. On the eastern edge of Windsor’s core lies the picturesque precinct still stubbornly referred to as Walkerville. Hiram Walker & Sons became legendary for its Canadian Club brand. It is a short step from vinegar to whiskey and, in 1858, Hiram took that step. This industrialist was Hiram Walker – a farm boy from Massachusetts, an enterprising Yankee grocer and distiller of vinegar in Detroit who looked south across the Detroit River and saw his future in the narrow farms stretching back from the Canadian shore. Among the shrinking number of 19th-century company towns, Walkerville – part of the City of Windsor since 1935 – remains an outstanding example of what can happen when a visionary industrialist acquires acres of French farmland for his fiefdom. ![]() "Segments are summaries of file information that NTFS stores in the MFT such as name, date, size, type and the cluster/allocation unit index," it says. Next up was La Roca from Todd Garfinkle’s MA Recordings. A transient guitar pick in the middle of the song left a bit of a punch in my belly. This was solid state? Garett Brennan’s vocals were smooth and detailed. The opening guitar chords were simply natural and lifelike. Right off we listened to ‘The Dog Song’ from Cookie Marenco’s dynamite Blue Coast Collection SACD sampler. I brought a stack of CDs I was familiar with and Barry has a huge collection and he tossed in a few gems as well. We let it ‘cook’ for an hour and things really got going.īarry and I have a CD collectors’ group in Atlanta so we are ‘old-school digital’ in that regard. The Aegir did not sound all that great at first, but I looked at Barry and said, don’t panic, this amp takes a while to get going. At first, we hooked up the Aegir to the Moab and used an Oppo 105 for digital playback. I like this speaker due to its presence in the midrange and some quite good bass performance. The Moab speakers are fairly wild with what appears to be 15 tweeters in an array but are actually dome radiating drivers in an MTM array providing midrange. Designed and built in California, the Aegir had a very solid feel and was quite heavy.įor sound evaluation, I went over to my friend Barry’s house where highly efficient Tekton Moabs were set up as both a two-channel system and a seven-channel surround system, but we listened in two channel mode only. There are two long and relatively sharp banks of heat dissipation fins running the length of the amplifier, and the amp puts out quite a lot of heat. Speaker terminals appear to be WBT and the banana connectors I used fitted snugly. Gently angled brushed aluminium with an operate button on the front which pulls it out of stand-by mode and an on-off switch in the back. I did not receive a second unit so I listened to the RCAs only. This one comes well packaged and is self-contained for RCA input operation but if you like balanced inputs, there is one balanced input so you have to run mono. But one that costs a mere £800? Hmm, we will see. D’Agastino? Pass Labs? Constellation? Sure. But I do confess that it’s hard for a solid-state amplifier to impress me. Audio Research? Doshi? VAC? It’s all good. I mean I like high quality solid state but give me the midrange of a good neutral tube amplifier any day. So I arranged for some high efficiency speakers to listen to the Aegir at its best.īut first, a caveat. So the bottom line is that we should hear the benefits of Class A but it obviously works its best with very efficient speakers. It’s still a very hot-running amp, though, with over 10W of Class A standing bias.” It also solves the NPN and PNP device mismatch problem, since it uses both NPN and PNP devices on both rails. In their own words, “Technically, Continuity is a way to eliminate transconductance droop outside of the Class A bias region, and extend the benefits of Class A biasing. They came up with a Continuity circuit, based on technology they used in their Lyr 3 headphone amp. The idea here was to make a Class A version of the Vidar, but the story is a little more complicated than that. Power output is 20 watts into 8 ohms or 40 watts into 4 ohms.
